The Wood Stove Fan - Maximise Your Wood Burner Stove's Heat At Zero Cost
A woodstove fan is an ideal addition to those who care about the environment and their fuel costs. While burning logs, wood pellets and scrap timber is cheaper than using gas or electrical heaters there is sometimes a compromise to be made.
Wood burners tend to have an inability to transfer generated heat far from the fire unless it is stoked high. Also, a lot of that heat will naturally just rise upwards without allowing the full benefit of it. This naturally involves using extra amounts of fuel to get the stove really hot and throw out a plenty of heat.
For a small outlay there is a way to maximise your log stove's output by circulating the heat either further into the room or around other home areas. This simple solution is the woodstove fan. An Ecofan is an example of such a device and its sole purpose is to blow hot air generated by the stove into the room. The hotter the fire gets the faster the fan's blades spin which of course means all that heat isn't allowed to just float ceiling ward or stay locally near the stove. Instead it is pumped and circulated deep into the room.
There is of course the initial cost of purchasing the wood stove fan but after that the running costs are zero. Their clever design means they are powered by the heat from the stove so they require no batteries, they don't have to be charged up and require no mains power.
The principle of how the fan operates is based on physics. An inbuilt thermoelectric module utilises the difference in temperature at the top of the machine to that conducted by its base from the stove. The temperature difference generates all the electrical energy needed to power it.
It is easy to realise you can soon see a reduction in fuel consumption as more of your wood stove's output is better utilised. Effectively your are getting a warmer home despite using less logs or whatever fuel normally consumed. With different sizes of fans available there is one to suit your purposes and with ever increasing utility costs there has never been a better time to invest in alternatives.
