Step into the magical world of gemstones. Blood red rubies rub shoulders with forest green emeralds. Deep and dark sapphires share a secret with dazzling diamonds. Neon pink spinels masquerade as rubies, while soothing moonstones cast a spell. Rummaging through these gemstones, we stumble upon rainbow tourmalines, tsavorites, misty topaz, colour-changing Alexanderite, priceless coloured diamonds and lots more.
Gemstone geometry
Studio Tara is synonymous with exquisite custom designed jewellery in Chennai. The styles are contemporary, traditional and fusion. However, Studio Tara’s USP lies in creating a piece of jewellery around the gemstone, rather than fitting a gemstone into a pre-conceived pattern.
Influences
The showroom is located in the heart of Chennai. A visit to the showroom tells you instantly, Studio Tara is all about artistic design. The interiors in muted colours, echo a distinct Thai influence, including a cascade, inspiring serenity and calm, both of which are necessary influences to enable creativity to flower. Large glass cabinets, play host to some exquisite jewellery. The perfect lighting enhances the dazzle of the diamonds or highlights the colour of the tourmaline.
Gems of wisdom
Young and bubbly Bharathi Raviprakash is the lady behind Studio Tara. A qualified jewellery professional from The Gemmological Institute of America, Bharathi chose to showcase her creativity, innovative designing skills and passion for all things beautiful under one roof. It is not unusual for Bharathi to custom design jewellery to match the personality of her clients. Bharathi exudes a fund of knowledge, discussing the chemical and physical properties of gemstones and metals, and animatedly describes their origin and treatments. She tells us Alexanderite was first discovered in Russia and named after Tsar Alexander. Spinel derives its name from the Latin word ‘sintill’ which in English translates as ‘scintillate’.
Flights of fancy
Two perfectly rounded, South Sea Pearls are crafted into a pair of lovebirds to create an unusual brooch. Pear shaped champagne diamonds are suspended into contemporary hoop earrings, while a large mauve-pink tourmaline is carved and crafted into an eye-catching pendant. Identical citrine droplets are combined with traditional kundan work to create mesmeric drop earrings. Studio Tara is all about creativity and creating symmetry out of nature’s asymmetry.
