Direct Vent Gas Fireplaces Come in Many Forms
I do so love a fireplace, but my house it not designed with one. We have a chimney in our home that is vented for the fuel oil furnace we use throughout the Winter months. The chimney needs a face lift to be sure. Also, even if I could afford to have this repaired, our State Regulations do not allow for one furnace to be used by two different forms of heating systems. I am caught coming and going, so to speak. I have been thinking about this dilemma for a few years now, kind of on the back burner set to simmer. I am wondering if Direct Vent Fireplaces would solve this particular problem for me.
The technology and science behind these systems is so far advanced from when I was a young adult. It used to be a no brainer, if you don't have a chimney, you can't have a fireplace. It was as simple as this! Now, there are all sorts of safe possibilities. So, what about the safety in using Direct Vent Gas Fireplaces? This I needed to spend some time on researching. It's like anything else...you get used to using one particular thing for many years, and you become uneasy about switching to something else. I have always heated with fuel oil as have my parents and their parents. Prior to this, my mother spoke about using wood stoves to heat her grandparents home. A few people in this region, where I now live, have a history of using coal as a heating source. This is something that I have never been interested in doing. It just seems so environmentally unfriendly, if you know what I mean.
Currently, most fuel oil companies also provide gas heat and many of them are active Dealers for companies that provide for Direct Vent - Gas Fireplaces as well as other forms that use pellets as a fuel source. What I am finding most interesting is that the design of these heating units are really quite advanced and take in to consideration the level of needs as they have developed over time. Time as a result of the product being out in the field. For example: because you may not have an actual fireplace in your house, a system has been devised for the customer to choose the type of enclosure they want for their Direct Vent Gas Fireplaces. You get to choose the doors, the chamber, the type of glass, the shape, dimmer controls for the inside lighting etc... To be sure, there is a great deal to learn and I am well on my way to having one of these systems in my home by Winter.
