If we consider as per the energy efficiency then tank water heater consumes more energy compared to the tank less. Since the water is stored in the tank energy consumption is high . Even if the hot water is not required still the heating is on to maintain the water temperature and as soon as the hot water is consumed the cold water supply is drawn.
If the tank is huge the amount of water in the reservoir will be always more than required and this will lead to excess hot water. Whereas in the tank less water heater, as per consumption the water will be supplied. It is also referred as instant water heater.
Tank water heater works on electric mode, natural gas and liquid propane. Gas and liquid propane heaters are more efficient than an electric model tank. The primary type in tank less is electric and natural gas.
When you are planning on buying a tank water heater, it is very important that you consider the size of the tank as per your water consumption. If you pick a smaller size tank water heater it might not suffice your complete water need but remember that an oversize tank will lead to energy wastage. Have the correct size installed so save electricity consumption. You do not need to worry about this aspect with a tank less water heater and size is not an issue since there is no water storage facility system in it.
When you go for the tank water heater make sure to insulate the tank properly to reduce the heat loss . It also protects against the corrosion and rust. When you continuously store water in the tank it otherwise leads to corrosion reducing the water heater lifespan. In tank less water heater the chocking in the water inlet pipe and due to regular flushing of the heat can lead to cracking of the pipe. Hence use a heat exchanger to avoid pipe cracking. In today's modern house people prefer tank water heater as you can quickly have the hot water without having to wait for it to heat up as it is continuously stored in the tank.
