After the walls, the floor is the most visible surface in commercial outlets. And because the floor has such a commanding presence, businesses such as retailers, manufacturers, and others spend a great deal of their spending power to make a personal style statement. The floor is the foundation upon which we build our empires, our humble abodes, and they are the reflection of who we are.
Whether out of the style penchant or complacency, most of us choose to stick with traditional options- wood, ceramic or carpet. These materials have served us and have proven themselves over the years. However, with the new genre of floor coming in, one cannot do without redoing the commercial floors. There is a vast world of materials to choose from ceramic tiles, carpet tiles and even concrete.
Today, concrete is regarded as one of the best commercial flooring solutions since they are durable, attractive and sustainable. The resilient quality of concrete makes it a great option for areas where people stand for long periods of time. Because the individual cells of concrete are closed, the material does not easily absorb liquids. As a result, it provides the best retail flooring solutions.
The installation costs for polished concrete is half to one third the cost of coatings; however that's not where the savings really lie. Polishing concrete improves the overall value of the floor. Businesses such as retailers, manufactures, and car dealers use polishing because coatings and sealers can have issues such as staining, delaminating and wear through. The life of some of these finishes can often be measured in months, resulting in constant up-keep. Polishing concrete offers an extremely dense, abrasion resistant concrete surface that will not delaminate.
The polished surface may lose some of its shine over time in areas of heavy foot traffic. The shine can be brought back with minimal cost. The only maintenance a polished floor will need is the removal of abrasives such as sand. Depending on the use of the floor, cleaning with a light detergent may also be required. The service life of polished concrete cannot be determined as of yet since it is a fairly new process. But some existing polished concrete jobs that see heavy traffic are over seven years old and performing well with nominal maintenance.
Other benefits that commercial and industrial property owners see in polishing concrete are reflectance, slip resistance; the biggest key is that the concrete can breathe. Reflectance, or the shine of the polished concrete, produces a brilliant surface. They are more slip resistant than a standard tile floor.
To get a concrete that meets your basic requirements, the contractor use individual techniques in placing and finishing the concrete. Commercial floors can also have special requirements for surface hardness, finish, and even color.
