History Of Coca-Cola
Millions of people every day throughout the world enjoy cold drinks like Coca-Cola. It is a globally success in the world including America. The success of story Coca-Cola started in Atlanta Georgia over 1000 years back. The original recipe and its origin are fairly different than that of today. Coca-Cola has spread across the world with ample advertising and great business model and still continues to be one of the most popular brands ever developed.
Coca-Cola was created at Columbus – Georgia in 1885 by Dr. John Pemberton. It was basically a type of cocaine and was popular at that time in Europe. It was originally a non alcoholic and carbonated drink including caffeine and cocaine from the Kola nut. It was first sold in Atlanta in Jacob's Pharmacy on 8th May 1886. An elixir was originally believed to cure several diseases including headache, impotence, dyspepsia, morphine addiction and others.
Coke was the nick name for Coca-Cola. Frank Robinson got the idea of the name of Coca-Cola. He again created the famous script Coca-Cola logo since who was a book keeper and had great penmanship. Coca-Cola was not really a success in the first year. Only nine servings were sold per day in the pharmacy in the first year. The drink did not even cover the $70 expenses spent on creating the product. However, the business boomed in the coming years.
Another Pharmacist called Asa Candler bought the formula from Pemberton in 1887 at a cost of $2300. Within ten years, the soda turned out to be one of the most popular fountain drinks. Asa Candler did aggressive marketing of the product to realize this goal. As both Pemberton and Candler were running Coca-Cola Company, the sales to the drink climbed to 4000 percent between 1890 and 1900.
Three versions of the soft drink were sold by three different companies in the first few years. But after some legal and unpleasant experiences, a second Coca-Cola company was formed in 1892 and this is the same company which exists till today
.
The two major factors which contributed to make Coca-Cola a huge successful company today is both good business plan and advertising. In the early 20th century, Coca-Cola was actually sold at the soda fountain. Other places like ice cream shops and pharmacies were also selling the soda. The business plan was simple which was creating syrup, add carbonated water and then distribute it to independent bottling companies. Those companies would sell the syrup to bottled Coke in the country.
Besides having the ability to spread Coca-Cola quickly across the country in a convenient and cost effective manner, another asset of the drink was its continuous aggressive marketing campaigns. Coca-Cola was easily found in many newspapers, wall paintings and billboards during the first 20th century. Radio was also utilized by Coca-Cola. The drink is considered by many of having a great influence on Americans and even promoting the iconic image of Santa Claus.
Coca-Cola is still one of the largest advertisers in the world today. Radio, print, films, televisions and web are not only used by Coca-Cola for advertising but advertisers were also used who utilize sporting events and other promotional events. One of the radio spots during the 1970s even produced a hit song ‘I like to teach the world to sing'.
Coca-Cola has been enjoying tremendous success and can be now found in over 200 countries worldwide.
